1. "You're alive!" she shouted as she threw her arms around his neck. His nose buried in her skin, he whispered, "That's what you think!" as he cracked her skull. "BRAINS! BRAINS!"
2. Rain on the roof, mud under my shoes, soggy pants, damp shirt sticking too familiarly to my skin. "I'm coming home," my letter said... the door was locked when I arrived.
3. On a five acre lot, John built a house to hold their dreams. His wife, the ungrateful wench, refused to move in, claiming she preferred the condo life. Less yard work.
4. "Come play! Snow!" my nephew squealed. I shook my head, and his lip quivered. "Auntie can't play in the snow. She's a witch, snow is water. I don't want to melt."
5. When the doctors said they didn't know if he would make it through the night, I thought they meant he would die. I had no idea his insomnia was this bad.
