A Few More Short Stories.

1. “No! I’d never leave you! I’ll never give you up! I’ll never let you down! Never run around, desert you!” … “Are you Rick-rolling me, in person?” … “HE SPEAKS MY SOUL’S WORDS!”

2. Falling for you was easy. One look into your big eyes was enough to keep me hooked. It would’ve been easier if you talked, blinked. Moved.. And what’s with that jewel in your bellybutton? (this one is actually 34 words, but I couldn't resist. How can I not finish a story about a guy in love with a troll doll?)

December's Writing Project

SO. The little project I made for myself wasn't exactly a success. Most of the 31 word stories I wrote were pretty terrible. Some of the ones I'm posting are pretty bad, too. But here are five, for now. I'll put some more up later, maybe.

1. "You're alive!" she shouted as she threw her arms around his neck. His nose buried in her skin, he whispered, "That's what you think!" as he cracked her skull. "BRAINS! BRAINS!"

2. Rain on the roof, mud under my shoes, soggy pants, damp shirt sticking too familiarly to my skin. "I'm coming home," my letter said... the door was locked when I arrived.

3. On a five acre lot, John built a house to hold their dreams. His wife, the ungrateful wench, refused to move in, claiming she preferred the condo life. Less yard work.

4. "Come play! Snow!" my nephew squealed. I shook my head, and his lip quivered. "Auntie can't play in the snow. She's a witch, snow is water. I don't want to melt."

5. When the doctors said they didn't know if he would make it through the night, I thought they meant he would die. I had no idea his insomnia was this bad.

Anyway, bye!

NaNoWriMo Fail.d

So, this year, like last year, I really wanted to do National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Every year, November sneaks up on me, like the asshole it is, and I always miss the beginning. Now, that's no surprise - I'm a procrastinator at heart.

However, I've found my solution. Each month, I'm going to make a goal for myself. I'm going to make a goal for writing and stick to it, despite the fact that I rarely keep my personal goals.

December: Write a story in 31 words, one each day.

Small red potatoes in the rich black soil.

Small red potatoes in the rich black soil. Green young trees sucking up the river water. Oranges from Spain. Rain-chute running down the side of the trailer. Islands. Paper mills all the way out in Roaring Springs, Pennsylvania. New banjo from Nashville. calandar from De Smet and Van Diest showing April on the wall, all wrong. Heading North though France for days, but never getting out. Old barn, strange sounds. Gin. Sunlight. Almost broke my own heart down there in Vicksburg. There is always an anchor somewhere. All that was left later was the vision of the two of us crossing the parking lot toward the blazing room off the interstate half an hour past Iowa over on the other side of the Mississippi. These songs are about what made that moment either possible or inevitable, depending on how you look at it.
